2008 Duracell Power A Smile Campaign

Ray-Ban Remasters event

Joined by actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, Duracell(R) today announced the winners of a nationwide search for five child Holiday Ambassadors — ranging in age from six to 15 years old — at an event in New York City. The Duracell Holiday Ambassadors will accompany Gyllenhaal, best known for her role in “The Dark Knight,” to promote the Duracell Power A Smile(TM) campaign, which aims to spread the joy of powering up a gift for the first time to those most in need.

To kick off the campaign in Gyllenhaal’s hometown today, the New York-based actress and Holiday Ambassadors hand-delivered Duracell batteries and Mattel toys to the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian. Later this month, the Holiday Ambassadors will make a similar donation of toys and batteries in his or her hometown, helping power smiles during what can be a difficult time of year for hospitalized children. Each of the participating hometown hospitals is a member of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI), a network that ensures the health of all children through clinical care, research, training and advocacy.
Gyllenhaal and the Holiday Ambassadors also are encouraging families across the U.S. to visit www.PowerASmile.com and join Duracell in supporting children’s hospitals by simply sharing one smile to power another. For every photo of a smile that is uploaded to the Web site, Duracell will make a $1 donation to the Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA. Uploaded photos will be featured on the Duracell Web site throughout the holiday season.
“I’m so excited to meet the Duracell Holiday Ambassadors,” said Maggie Gyllenhaal. “I’m looking forward to working with them over the holidays.”
The following are the winners of the Ambassador search:
    -- Grace, 10, Rogers, AR
    -- Lukeya, 12, Feasterville, PA
    -- Nikay, 8, Albuquerque, NM
    -- Hailee, 7, Olympia, WA
-- Iyana, 6, Silver Springs, MD
“For any parent, the thrill of seeing their children enjoying the holiday season makes for lifelong memories,” said Bob Jacobs, marketing director at Duracell, a Procter & Gamble Company. “Our Power A Smile program is designed to make sure children get to experience the joy of the holidays even if a hospital stay takes them away from home. Maggie Gyllenhaal and our Duracell Holiday Ambassadors truly embody the spirit of the program and will help power smiles across the country.”
Three children were chosen via an online casting call by submitting photos that demonstrated the elation of opening or powering up a toy for the first time. In addition, two children were chosen from in-person casting call events in Dallas and Philadelphia. The judging panel included representatives from Duracell, Mattel and Mattel’s Children Hospital UCLA.
Gyllenhaal greeted the ambassadors at a press event in New York City on Wednesday, Dec. 3, starting at 1p.m. ET at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan located at 212 W 83rd St between Broadway and Amsterdam. Press credentials are required for entry. Jake Gyllenhaal and his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, may be famous actors with equally A-list squeezes, but it looks like their parents haven’t been reaping the benefits of their children’s success.
According to divorce documents obtained by TMZ, Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Foner are in deep financial trouble. The couple, who separated last January, apparantly acquired some serious debt during the course of their marriage, including mortgage payments, home equity lines of credit against their two homes, several credit cards and “various outstanding loans.”

Naomi, a screenwriter, says she had to take out a loan during the writer’s strike because she had no money coming in.

Gyllenhaal allegedly told Foner of their finances, “I have been clear that if worse comes to worse, I will let all of this collapse into ruin, just as I believe letting the markets crash and burn are the right approach.”

Uh huh. How about just asking your kids for help?

I am so glad that Maggie is supporting such a great initiative as Hear The World, it is defiantly an issue that does not get enough notice and it affects so many people. I can name 6 people I know with hearing loss, how many can you name?

Stäfa, Switzerland (PRWEB) November 10, 2008 — Actress Diane Kruger has become the most recent Hollywood star to offer herself as an ambassador for the Hear the World initiative. The international star is the cover model for the current issue of the Hear the World magazine.

In addition to Kruger, Mischa Barton, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Billy Idol have joined the team of famous ambassadors. All have been photographed for the cause by Bryan Adams, the initiative’s official photographer, in the Hear the World pose – with a hand behind one ear, symbolising conscious hearing. The goal of their participation is to raise awareness about the issue of hearing loss.

Kruger celebrated her international breakthrough with the role of Helen in Wolfgang Peterson’s “Troy.” She is currently filming Quentin Tarantino’s new film “Inglorious Bastards” with Brad Pitt, which is scheduled to appear in cinemas in 2009. With her star power, Kruger plays an important role in drawing attention to the message of the initiative.

The Hear the World magazine utilizes a culture and lifestyle platform to address the topic of hearing. Always linking content to the subject of hearing and sound, the magazine’s features focus on a broad range of topics, from music, to art, nature, and everything else that makes life more beautiful. The magazine is supported by the global Hear the World initiative, which is dedicated to raising awareness about hearing.

A team at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore estimated that 55 million Americans have hearing loss in one or both ears. One out of six, or 29 million adults, have some trouble discerning speech, more than previous estimates, they reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Current ambassadors for Hear the World include Plácido Domingo, Joss Stone, Mick Jagger, Amy Winehouse, Harry Belafonte and Annie Lennox, among others.

Hear the World magazine is published quarterly and is available at select newsstands and at airports internationally for $8 an issue. A free copy of the magazine can be ordered at www.hear-the-world.com. Net proceeds of the magazine benefit the Hear the World Foundation.

Okay, so wondered why I’m not around here? Well me and my family was very unfortunate when we decided to go away for a weekend (3-4 weeks ago), while we weren’t home we had a break in and they more or less took everything there was to take, including my precious laptop. I have gotten a new laptop but I just moved into my new appartment last week and I don’t have internet yet and am having loads of problems with getting it. My friend was so nice to let me borrow her wireless internet until I get something myself. But don’t expect me to get back to the usual amount of updates for a couple of more weeks.

Just added a 2 recent appereances and a set of candids of Maggie and Peter out to vote (4th November).

The parents of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal are set to divorce.

Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal filed for divorce from Stephen Gyllenhaal on Wednesday, Los Angeles County court documents show.

The couple married in 1976 and have property in Los Angeles and Martha’s Vineyard.

During an interview last year, Jake, 27, was asked what relationship advice his parents had given him.

He responded, “This marks the 30th wedding anniversary of my parents. A young man came up to my dad and asked him, ‘What’s it like being married to the same woman for 30 years?’

“My dad answered, ‘She’s not the same woman.’”

Naomi – a screenwriter -  has written the screenplays for several feature films, including Running on Empty (for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and won a Golden Globe Award for the same category), Losing Isaiah, and most recently Bee Season. She was previously married to historian and Columbia Professor Eric Foner.

Stephen – a film director – directed the film version of the Pete Dexter novel Paris Trout, which was nominated for five Emmy awards.

He is also a poet who has been published in literary journals such as Prairie Schooner and Nimrod. His first collection of poetry, Claptrap: Notes from Hollywood, was published in June 2006.

A rep for Jake couldn’t reached for comment as Fame went to press.

I’m not an american, not even close to, but I’ve been 18 and had to vote for the first time.. wasn’t scary for me since I was/am very much into politics. It really is important that you vote, get your voice out there and let everybody know that you have an opinion, because everybody does. One important note though, learn about the politicians and what they stand for (listen to the political views and not the trash talking), it’s important to know what you’re voting for! Anyway listen to what Maggie go to say:
