Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jeff Bridges visited the Tavis Smiley show on March 8th, the video has been added to the video archive along with a clip from the upcoming Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang. Watch both videos below.
Maggie Gyllenhaal says she grew up idolizing Madonna, so she was a little starstruck when she finally met her after being invited to one of her parties. Fortunately, the alcohol took the edge off the situation.
“She didn’t say hi, she just started dancing with me,” she told Ellen Degeneres on her show. “Luckily I had taken my shoes off and I kind of like… I was drunk enough that I just kind of danced with her. And I really did for like a minute and a half.
“Then she was beyond me. Way too good of a dancer and then my girls — two of my girlfriends had come with me — and they kind of like ran over. We were hyperventilating a little. And then I look up the stairs and she’s dancing with my husband. And my husband has like his tie undone and he’s completely handling it.”
Maggie recently attended the Academy Awards ceremony, with husband Peter Sarsgaard, where she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her part in Crazy Heart. It was at the after-party hosted by Demi Moore and Madge herself that she met Madonna. The party was reportedly the craziest in Hollywood and Madonna danced early into the morning with some of the biggest stars of the night.
A litte bit about Maggie from a BBC news article
Along with Saldana and Bullock, Maggie Gyllenhaal in hand-painted Dries Van Noten and Meryl Streep in a perfect white Chris March dress, were the most elegant ladies in the room.
Gyllenhaal may have gone home empty-handed, but deserved to win the prize for most fashion forward outfit. Flame-haired 1980s teen dream Molly Ringwald drew attention in her purple draped dress that complemented her colouring to perfection.
Jeff Bridges has revealed he wanted Maggie Gyllenhaal to play his love interest in Crazy Heart because he’d always “admired her acting“.
The Hollywood star – who scooped the Best Actor Oscar for his performance as alcoholic country musician Bad Blake – said Maggie was top of his wish list to play the young reporter he falls for.
He said: “I’ve been following her, she’s a great actress, she disappears into the role and becomes that person. She was on the top of my list of actresses that I kind of imagined in that role.”
Jeff, 60, had no qualms about the age-gap on screen between him and 32-year-old Maggie.
“I thought about having a more age-appropriate relationship, but somehow the story didn’t lend itself to that, it was better to be this way,” he said.
“As far as how that felt, I mean, I think of myself as 25,” he laughed.
“I can’t believe I’m 60 years old, come on!”
:: Crazy Heart is in cinemas now.
Maggie might have gone home empty-handed (lost out to Mo’Nique) last night but the cast of Crazy Heart has plenty to celebrate, with Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett winning for Best Original Song with The Weary Kind, and of course Maggie’s co-star and friend Jeff Bridges winning the oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
