Welcome to Maggie Gyllenhaal Online the ultimate fansite for the academy award nominated actress Maggie Gyllenhaal. You might know Maggie from movies such as Secretary, SherryBaby, The Dark Knight, Nanny McPhee Returns or Crazy Heart You will also be able to see Maggie in the upcoming movie Hysteria Maggie Gyllenhaal Online brings you all the latest news, pictures, videos and everything else related to Maggie and her career.

If you’re not a child under the age of 10 or don’t have any of your own, you may be surprised to learn that not only does Maggie Gyllenhaal play a lead role in Nanny McPhee Returns, but she’s actually really good in it, nailing the right comic tone and posh British accent. She’s doing the publicity rounds now to promote the movie, and talking to Screen Crave that she’ll have an upcoming role opposite her husband, Peter Sarsgaard.

We learned in late June that Sarsgaard would be starring in a biopic about bluegrass musician Bill Monroe, but apparently she’ll be joining him– and bringing her Oscar-winning Crazy Heart collaborator T. Bone Burnett with her:

Bill Monroe, who invented Blue Grass music had a kind of Sid and Nancy style affair with this woman Bessie Lee Mauldin throughout his life and T-Bone Burnett’s going to do the music and Callie Khouri who wrote Thelma & Louise wrote the script so we’re going to do that together.

This the first we’ve heard of T. Bone Burnett’s involvement, and if a Gyllenhaal-Sarsgaard matchup weren’t enough to get me interested, that definitely seals the deal. With Khouri still working on the script it will probably be a while before we see the final product, but isn’t this kind of match-up worth the wait? The two said in February of last year that they wouldn’t team up again at the movies (they worked together in a production of Uncle Vanya in New York), but I suppose anyone will change their mind if the right project comes along. All the better for us, I’d say.

Before she was nominated for an Oscar opposite Jeff Bridges in “Crazy Heart,” and before she dazzled Bruce Wayne and the Caped Crusader in “The Dark Knight,” Maggie Gyllenhaal was the darling of the low-budget, independent movie set.

We loved her in “Secretary,” “SherryBaby” and “Happy Endings.” If you’re a real student of indie films, you might even remember “Mona Lisa Smile,” “Donnie Darko” and “Cecil B. Demented.”

Jake Gyllenhaal‘s older sister likes to surprise her fans with the diversity of her roles, and now she is really surprising people by starring in a big-studio family film called “Nanny McPhee Returns,” which opens Friday.

The sequel to the 2006 hit “Nanny McPhee” was written and executive produced by Emma Thompson, who also reprises her role as the mysterious and magical nanny who drops into the lives of needy families. The unattractive nanny somehow gets better-looking as the movie progresses, without the benefit of cosmetic surgery.

Gyllenhaal, 32, plays the mother of three children trying to cope during wartime after she receives word that her husband is missing in action.

When she walks into a suite at a Los Angeles hotel, the actress is taller than one expects (5-foot-9), and her clear blue eyes are spectacular. She has a girlish, high-pitched voice, but she has a serious and thoughtful manner, as befitting a graduate of Columbia University, and a new mother. Gyllenhaal and actor husband Peter Sarsgaard‘s daughter Ramona will turn 4 in October.

The Nanny McPhee movies may be principally for kids, but make no mistake about it: They are, quite literally, a parent’s dream.

Overwhelmed single parents with unruly kids are rescued by a magical nanny who seemingly appears out of nowhere. And at no cost! For some older moviegoers escorting little ones, this premise might be impossibly alluring. And they said fans of “Avatar” were depressed when they left the theatre.

“Nanny McPhee Returns” is the sequel to 2005′s “Nanny McPhee.” Both were written by Emma Thompson (who stars as the nanny in question) based on Christianna Brand’s Nurse Matilda books, which were published in the 1960s and ’70s.

That McPhee owes much to P.L. Travers’ Mary Poppins is obvious, and there’s a whiff of familiarity to both Nanny McPhee movies that prevent them from being truly fresh. But there’s still a warm, British naturalism to “Nanny McPhee Returns” and an old-fashioned cheerfulness uncommon to most of today’s kids movies.

Co-stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Emma Thompson took the Nanny McPhee red carpet by storm, both opting for the style-safe – but super elegant LBD!

A far cry from her past roles – (who could forget Secretary!) Maggie Gyllenhaal hit the premiere of her new family film, Nanny McPhee Returns in New York. Looking stunning in a black Lanvin one-shouldered gown, Maggie finished her look with a pair of on trend patent nude heels to complete the perfect understated red carpet look.

And not to be outshone in the dress department, Emma Thompson showed off her fab figure in a LBD and metallic peeptoe heels. The iconic British actress had recently been honoured by getting her name in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Supporting the two leading ladies at the premiere was Maggie’s hubby An Education star Peter Sarsgaard, who looked suave in a pair of Wave-Farers.

Co-starring a whole host of British talent – including Rhys Ifans, Ewan McGregor, Maggie Smith and Ralph Fiennes, Nanny McPhee Returns – or Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang as it’s known in the UK, is already out on DVD – so there’s no excuse not to see it!

For Emma Thompson, love means having to say you’re sorry. Quite a bit, as it happens.

She frequently apologizes to daughter Gaia, 10, for missteps in motherhood.

“I always say to Gaia, ‘I got that wrong. I’m very sorry. That was badly judged, but next time, I’ll do it this way.’ The point about great parenting is that you know if you get it wrong, you can try again and get it right,” says Thompson.

Her friend and colleague Maggie Gyllenhaal, mother of 3-year-old Ramona, approves of Thompson’s tactics. “That’s great. It’s defensiveness that kills you, with every relationship,” she says.

Thompson is a riot, an opinionated, candid woman full of witty asides and killer zingers. Gyllenhaal is softer-spoken and more reserved, but just as spirited. Together, they are disarmingly outspoken and honest about the rewards and travails of raising kids. Thompson groans playfully, hanging her head in mock exhaustion. “God, it’s terrible being a parent!”

Try being a single mom during wartime, with no money, three unruly kids and a farm to run. In Nanny McPhee Returns, opening Friday, Thompson plays Nanny McPhee, the mythically wise and tough caretaker who helps Mrs. Green (Gyllenhaal) deal with her lovingly rowdy offspring and the uptight niece and nephew who come stay with her. Did Thompson, who wrote the screenplay, craft it with Gyllenhaal in mind?
