Maggie Gyllenhaal and Sheryl Crow have united to help to expose human rights violations in the world, via video and digital media.

Witness is currently in its sixth year, and this year the organisation’s gala was hosted by the British rock musician Peter Gabriel.

Gyllenhaal described how the use of video images can change the way people think:

“I was 8 or 9 years old when I saw Tiananmen Square. That man standing in front of that tank and risking his life for something he believed in. I had never seen anything like that before. It changed my life.

“Right now anyone can just pick up a camera and record something and put it online. And everyone will see it.”

Nine time Grammy winner, Sheryl Crow, performed at the event but believes there are some disadvantages to using digital media to reach the masses: “I think that there are great things about it, and I think that there are dangerous things about it. I think the amount of misinformation that goes around is probably as prevalent as the amount of correct information.

“You just hope that people will use their ability to discern what’s reality and what’s untruth and what’s truth.”

I felt it was time for a layout change, so I made this new layout with gorgeous pictures. I wanted to keep it classic and simple because.. well that’s just what I do!

I hope you all like it as much as I do, and please do leave a comment.

Now that is a beautiful start of the day!

Maggie Gyllenhaal did a photoshoot for Mark Townsend‘s website MARKTbeauty.com and it’s a beautiful I must say (new favourite? I think so!). I’ve added the gorgeous pictures to the gallery (thumbs below), and here’s Mark’s wonderful comment about Maggie:

I met Maggie Gyllenhaal a few years ago when I went to style her hair for the ShoWest Festival in Las Vegas around the time The Dark Knight was coming out. I have always been such a fan of Maggie’s work and love the brave choices she makes with the roles she plays (Secretary, Sherrybaby, Away We Go, and Crazy Heart on all on my favorite movie list!) I remember that I was insanely nervous to work with her because I’ve always thought that she is the coolest, most stylish lady in Hollywood and I was afraid she wouldn’t think I was cool enough. I was completely correct about her being cool and stylish but I guess she did think I was cool enough because she asked me to do her hair for The Dark Knight film premiere! I absolutely love working with Maggie, she is a dream to collaborate with. In fact, the inspiration for this shoot came from a photograph in Maggie’s house from the ’30s that she has always loved and wanted to recreate in a modern way. Maggie inspires me in so many ways; as an actress, a mother, and as a friend and I think I am the luckiest kid in town that I get to work with her!
